Sunset Substation: From empty lot to pocket park

It’s an empty lot now, but the old Sunset Hill substation could be a cool community space, and you can help plan it.

From 6:30 to 9 p.m. tonight (Feb. 23) there will be the second of three planned community meeting on a project to transform an abandoned City Light substation parcel into a pocket park.

The meeting is at the Sunset Hill Community Association, 3003 NW 66th Street.

The concept is for a solar-powered community space with an artist-in-residence caretaker. The project is sponsored by Groundswell NW and the Sunset Hill Community Association with a Neighborhood Matching Fund grant to study potential uses for the space, at 3209 NW 65th Street.

More than 50 neighbors attended the kick-off meeting December 19.

A team led by CAST architecture was selected for the project. CAST is really into sustainable building and public space. You can read more about their ideas here.
